Structural Rehabilitation of Rockaway Line Viaduct, Phase II, Jamaica Bay Crossing

Reconstruction of the existing concrete viaduct carrying the A train over Jamaica Bay. Work includes concrete T-beam repairs by removal of unsound concrete, installation of new reinforcing, forming of arched beam shape, and pumping new concrete as required to enlarge and encapsulate existing beams; overhead concrete spall repairs and removal of exisiting fiberglass forms. All work was performed over water from barges, floats and movable suspended platforms. New concrete was batched on a barge and pumped into place.

Columbia University Suspension Bridge Main Cable Grant Study

GCCOM brought their cable compacting equipment and expertise to the Columbia University Civil Engineering Testing Lab and compacted and banded the world’s only physical model of a bridge suspension cable under tension. The university under a federal grant is performing a variety of tests to determine which type of sensors can most accurately measure conditions within the cable. These sensors will be used in the future to determine the condition of existing bridge cables and to provide real time monitoring of loads and conditions within suspension bridge cables.

New York Post Foundation Study

GCCOM took 8 foot deep concrete cores through existing floor slabs, heavy press equipment foundations, terminating inside concrete filled steel pipe piles. This was done to establish the current condition of existing foundations and to locate the supporting piles, as required for the completion of a new design for the addition of new press equipment.
